Personally, I don't understand the desire to make the Kindle look like a book, or read like a book (eg. side opening covers). It is a relatively fragile device compared to a book and about 20 times more expensive. I want to protect that investment even at the cost of some accessibility and an increase in weight and size - after all, it is very small and light to begin with. Unfortunately, it is very hard to find a true "hard" case which does not flex under pressure (no pun intended).

This is a great case, I love the material, selection of colors and the double zipper. They got it right on the inside too: the strap is horizontal cutting across just above the keyboard and below the screen that in a pinch I can still use the Kindle while it is in the case. The case is somewhat hard too, it has a very rigid shape and resists pressure from all edges very well.

Unfortunately, I will not be standing my Kindle up like a book. It will more likely be lying flat on a table or chair, between a laptop and papers in my bag, or folds of clothing in my suitcase. The danger with this case, and really all other cases I have seen to date, is that the screen is crushed - and when crushed cracked. Neither the front nor back of the case are "hard" enough to distribute any amount of force to the edges and thus away from the screen.

The product still gets four stars for being a great case, but it's not a "hard" case.
